Hydrosols, also known as floral waters, plant waters, or distillate waters, are the byproduct of the steam-distillation process used to make essential oils.
As with the plants from which they are derived, hydrosols also have healing properties. They contain the water-soluble components of the distilled plant or flower and a very small amount of the essential oil. However, they are very different from essential oils and thus lend themselves to different uses.
Likewise, the smells of hydrosols are subtler than those of their corresponding essential oils. The water solubility of hydrosols make them gentle enough to be used as they are, e.g. applied directly to the skin; depending on your intended use, they can also be diluted.
At Bloom* Aromatherapy, our Lavender, Rose, and Witch Hazel Hydrosols are the real deal; they are 100% pure and natural. They are not a blend of plain water and essential oils. Likewise, our Lavender+Witch Hazel and Rose+Witch Hazel Hydrosol Blends are made of the pure Hydrosols of each plant.
Hydrosols are especially beneficial when used in your daily beauty regimen as a mild moisturizer, astringent, and toner. They also make healthy additions to other beauty preparations. When spritzed on your face after applying makeup, hydrosols soften the look of makeup and give your face a natural glow. And throughout the day, use hydrosols to cool and lightly moisturize your face and skin.
Hydrosols can also be used as air fresheners and included in your homemade household products. (See the Ways to Use page for more information.)

"... I love spritzing myself with the lavender hydrosol often during the day. It's like an instant zap of relaxation, physically and psychologically. I have also been reading up on the benefits of witch hazel over alcohol, which is in many products, and appreciate that Bloom uses witch hazel, which is all natural..." -- Linda D., Pembroke Pines, FL
